Igapo
Acu
Region
|
"Igapo" is a Tupi Indian word for flooded forest. "Acu" essentially
means the real thing. One look at this place and you'll see how it
got its name. When it comes to flooded forests, this is the real
thing. The Igapo Acu region is comprised of several large rivers
and the immense flooded forest lake that gives it its name. Included
in this system is the Rio Matupiri, Rio Preto, Rio Tupana, Rio Igapo Acu
and Lago Tacuia. These rivers range from relatively clear to moderately
stained blackwater and are equally excellent for fly and conventional anglers.
They typically produce great numbers of peacock bass, with a high concentration
toward the smaller sizes while still yielding plenty of fish in the teens
and offering access to the big hulking 20+ pounders that lurk here.
This is the place to go if your goal is lots of action with a variety of
fishing styles. Under normal conditions, these waters will produce
15 to 50 fish per angler per day, yet still provide trophies into the 20
pound class. We concentrate on this region in September and October,
when water levels are generally perfect. The Igapo Acu Region represents
a great balance between quantity and size and is a great place to start
a serious peacock bass habit.
The Blackwater Explorer yacht has great
mobility and a shallow draft that allows us to access the waters with the
best conditions at any given time; Over 300
Miles of majestic, fishable waters with giant lagoons and winding tributaries.
We can fish as much or as little of this area as we choose. Based
on fishing conditions, we can sample all of the various fisheries or choose
to concentrate our efforts on the rivers or sections with optimal water
levels and productivity. This flexibility allows us to find
great fishing on all of our trips. Fish exciting new waters
all day long and then return to fine food and drink and the secure comfort
of the yacht. This is our most popular trip and with its special
price, it's undoubtedly the best value in the Amazon.
* Please Note - This region is contained within
an Indian reservation and is subject to yearly renewable contracts and
permits.

Rio Negro
Basin
|
The most famous of all trophy peacock fisheries and the heart of
the giant peacock's territory, this huge basin contains the world’s largest
peacock bass. With at least a dozen productive blackwater rivers,
such as the Unini, the Urubaxi, the Cuini and the Caures, this area typically
fishes well from late October until the end of February. The deeply
tannin-stained waters are unique in their austere characteristics, containing
less biomass but often more biodiversity than clearer waters. Quantity
tends to be lower in most of the rivers in this basin, with anglers typically
landing 5 to 15 fish per day, but size is the key. Often several
of those daily fish may be in the teens with fish in the low to mid-20
lb. class common. If a shot at a world record is your goal, then
this is your fishery. The region contains several excellent rivers,
including the Unini and Urubaxi.

Rio
Unini
|
A limited acess river, the Unini is one of the rare places that
offers both good numbers (typically 10 to 20 per day) and true trophy size
(into the mid-20 pound class). Deeply stained black water provides
an awesome setting for the peacock's famous, explosive topwater strike.
Both fly and conventional anglers are productive here. Because of
this river's enormous size and structural complexity, it maintains its
excellent performance from late October through early March. Anglers
can also enjoy tackle-busting encounters with huge red-tailed catfish,
up to 100 pounds in the Unini's deep holes and eddies.
* Please Note - This river is within
Amazonas State and Brazilian Federal reserves and is subject to yearly
renewable contracts and permits.

Rio
Urubaxi
|
A monster peacock fishery, the Urubaxi produces giants up to 26
pounds. Its austere blackwater character typically offers lower total
catch numbers (5 to 15 per day) but an incredible percentage (commonly
between 10 and 15 percent) of fish caught are tropy fish, weighing
in the teens and up. That leaves out the tremendous number of line
breakers and spoolers we've encountered here. This is the right place
to go if a world record is your goal. We access this fishery when
water conditions are appropriate.

Other
Rivers
|
Although the Amazon basin is rich in watersheds (over 1000 named
tributaries) only a select proportion offers access to the giant peacock
bass. Our focus is to provide anglers with the best fishing possible
throughout the fishing season. As a result, we are constantly seeking
the right waters at the right time. We won't hestitate to use our
mobility and take advantage of optimal conditions on a great range of Amazon
rivers, including the Rio Cuini, Alegria, Tea, Uneuixi, Jufari, Caures,
Paduari, Preto, lower Xeriuini, Abobora and others. All have somewhat
different characteristics, but you can be sure that if we're there, the
time is right. |
Please Note - Some of these rivers and regions
are contained within Indian reservations and/or government reserves.
They are subject to yearly renewable contracts and permits. All of
these rivers and their scheduled dates are also subject to the unpredictable
effects of Mother Nature. Availability and access to the fisheries
named is dependent on weather and water level. If any factors prevent
the use of a specified fishery or dates, an alternative river will be used,
if suitable, or alternative dates will be offered. If there are no
suitable alternatives, anglers will be offered a one-year raincheck.

the Amazon. Come and enjoy it with us.
